چکیده

We have developed a simple method to measure the transport spin polarization of ferromagnetic materials. This technique relies on the fact that the Andreev reflection process at the interface between a superconductive and normal is influenced by the spin polarization P of the normal metal. In a very short time we have been able to measure the spin polarization of several metals: NixFe12x , Ni, Co, Fe, NiMnSb, La0.7Sr0.3MnO3, and CrO2, whose spin polarization ranges from 35% to 90%. Our results compare well with other methods for measuring P. © 1999 American Institute of Physics. @S0021-8979~99!25208-5#

Writing Spin in a Quantum Dot with Ferromagnetic and Superconducting Electrodes

We propose an efficient mechanism for the operation of writing spin in a quantum dot, which is an ideal candidate for qubit. The idea is based on the Andreev reflection induced spin polarization (ARISP) in a ferromagnetic / quantum-dot / superconductor system. We find that on the resonance of Andreev reflection, the spin polarization of quantum dot strongly denpends on the magnetization of ferr...

99 9 Interplay between Spin Polarization and out - of - Equilibrium Transport in S - F - S Junctions

We present a scattering treatment of transport in S-F-S junctions with a small ferromagnetic metal region inside the junction. The charge carriers are assumed not to thermalize with the fer-romagnet conduction band, and the ferromagnetic and superconductor orders coexist close to the interfaces. This requires a small ferromagnetic region in the junction. Ferromagnetism in the junction provides ...

How to Measure Degree of Spin Polarization

Spintronics is an emerging field of research combining two traditional branches of physics: magnetism and electronics. It is based on the ability of ferromagnetic materials to conduct spin-polarized currents. The effectiveness of spintronics depends on the extent to which a current is spin-polarized [1], which in turn depends on the spin polarization of the ferromagnetic materials. All device d...

Probing spin polarization with Andreev reflection: A theoretical basis

Andreev reflection at the interface between a ferromagnet and a superconductor has become a foundation of a versatile technique of measuring the spin polarization of magnetic materials. In this article we will briefly outline a general theory of Andreev reflection for spin-polarized systems and arbitrary Fermi surface in two limiting cases of ballistic and diffusive transport. © 2001 American I...

Is CrO2 fully spin polarized? Analysis of Andreev spectra and excess current.

We report an extensive theoretical analysis of point-contact Andreev reflection data available in the literature on ferromagnetic CrO2. We find that the spectra can be well understood within a model of fully spin-polarized bands in CrO2 together with spin-active scattering at the contact. This is in contrast to analysis of the data within extended Blonder-Tinkham-Klapwijk models, which lead to ...
